The roofing that sits on top of your home is an essential part of your property’s overall structure. If you’re worried that your home could use a new roof, here are some signs to watch out for.
- Most roofing will last anywhere from 20 to 25 years. If it’s been longer than that, or you’re running into a significant number of problems with your roof on a regular basis, it’s probably a good idea to consider replacement.
- Curling and Buckling Shingles. When the shingles on your roof start to curl and buckle, it’s a sign that your roofing is nearing the end of its life. If you aren’t sure if your shingles are having problems, look at the parts of your roof that get direct sunlight, and you will be able to see if curling or buckling is occurring.
- Roof Granules in the Gutters. Are your home’s gutters filled with granules from your shingles? Many shingles will start to shed small granules of material when they get older.
- Daylight Coming Through Your Roof Boards If you think your home needs new roofing, go up into your attic and see if any daylight is coming in through your roof boards. This is also a good opportunity to check and make sure that there isn’t any moisture in the insulation.
